Bucharest
is the capital of Romania, being the most important industrial center
of the country. The legend says that this city was founded by a
shepherd named Bucur. Bucharest, being the most important city of

- The Palace of the Parliament
The
Palace of the Parliament or People’s House was known before
revolution as House of the Republic. The construction started in 1984
and finished in 1997. It is the second-largest administrative
building in the world after Pentagon from United States. It has 9
levels outside and 9 levels underground, being the heaviest building
from the world. People’s House is located in the central part of
Bucharest.
- The Palace of Justice
The
first foundation stone of the building was put by the King Carol I in
1890. The witnesses of the event said like the ceremony started with
the king who signed the foundation document on a parchment, putting
the royal seal and after this the King Carol I submitted the
parchment in foundation and put the first brick. The Palace of
Justice was built in French Renaissance style. Under construction
vaults, you can see 6 allegorical statues signifying: The Attention,
The Vigor, The Law, The Justice, The Eloquence and The Truth.
- Cotroceni Palace
The
Cotroceni Palace is the official residence of the President of
Romania. In 1679 Serban Cantacuzino built on the Hill Cotroceni a
monastery, his work being continued by Constantin Brancoveanu, who
often stopped at monastery. In 1862 Alexandru Ioan Cuza decided that
Monastery Cotroceni become a royal summer residence. At the beginning
of the reign, the King Carol I receives the oldest summer royal
residence from Cotroceni. He decides to build a palace inside the
monastery for Crown’s heirs which served like official residence in
Bucharest. After the revolution from 1989 this become the official
residence of the President of Romania.
- “Grigore Antipa” National Museum of Natural History
The
construction of the museum started at the initiative of the brother
of the King Alexandru Ghica, the Great Count Mihalache Ghica. He
donated important collections, like Greek, Roman and Byzantine
coins, rock and mineral, fossils, mollusk, fish, birds and mammals
collections, as well as works of art. The museum is one of the oldest
research institution in the field of biodiversity and public
education.
- “King Ferdinand I” National Military Museum
Alexandru
Ioan Cuza is the first person who tried to storage and preserve the
pieces with military character. He issued an order which had the
scope to keep the output objects at Arsenal Army. The next step was
to create a military section in the National History Museum. In 1919
the Minister of the Agriculture donated to Minister of War the
building from Carol Park to shelter the exhibitions and heritage for
future military museum. In 1923 the King Ferdinand I declared the
National Military Museum as a distinct institution.
In
present, the heritage of National Military Museum is composed from
300.000 tridimensional objects and material documentations.
- Arch of Triumph
The
Arch of Triumph is one of the monuments which commemorate the
participations of Romania in War World First beside Allies. At the
end of this war almost the all territories inhabited by Romanians
were reunited.
In
Bucharest was built another arches of triumph with temporary
existence, but after World War First has taken the decision of build
a monument with permanent character.
- Herastrau Park
The Herastrau park is situated around Lake Herastrau one of the lakes formed on
Coletina River. Initially, the area was full of marshes, but these
were drained. Herastrau park is divided in 2 zones: a natural zone
(you find the Village Museum) and the public domain for recreation
activities.
In
